Victim 2 Victor

An inspirational story about a woman's struggle with sexual abuse and overcoming trauma.

When childhood memories and events continue to haunt you, you may feel the best thing to do is to forget about it and move on – but is there a better way?

Facing the pain hurts, but hiding from it throughout adulthood is worse. Being a victim, it takes a great amount of strength and healing to break the pattern.

This inspiring and brutally honest memoir details the struggle for survival, and the search for healing and happiness.
Raised in abuse and navigating through consequences, a young, broken soul finds the strength to embark on a journey to reclaim her self-worth.

What kind of childhood is possible with sexual assault?
Is there a way to escape from hurt?
How do you shed the victim identity?

This gripping book details the life of a first-generation girl who went through hell. Born in England in 1980 with mixed Asian Indian ancestry, she narrates her story of hardship and resistance.

Dealing with deep traumas from sexual assault endured since the age of three, and the challenges of being a woman, this girl managed not to break.

Her inspiring journey is a life-long struggle to find self-worth on the ruins of self-esteem.

Brutally honest, shocking and riveting – this personal story is an example of a beautiful transformation from living in pain and the journey to happiness.

The author opens her heart and reveals her darkest secrets into these pages, lighting the way so that another damaged soul will find the way to healing.

We do not get to dictate all of life’s events, but we can decide how to deal with them. Sometimes your life takes a bad turn, then sweeps you off your feet. Other times, you may need a reminder to reevaluate it. Through moments of conflict, uncertainty and strength, this book is highly motivational, educational and healing for all.

I was drawn to the powerful cover of this book as it came up as a recommendation and I read the sample and was drawn in to Anu and what she had been through. I had to download the rest of the book and am in awe of this powerful woman, being of Asian heritage, it must be hard to open up about such taboo topics because this is not easily talked about in the indian culture. She is a brave woman o honest. I love the way the content is so raw and honest. I find myself relating to this book on so many levels. It helped me see how whatever has happened in my life, has led me to where I am. Thank you for this beautiful book and the value it has given to me in my life journey.

The way she begins the book with a lengthy acknowledgement was special. She made sure to not miss anyone and it also provided a way to see who she is as a person. From the start my heart went out to her. So many women have dealt with the same things and aren’t able to speak on it so her deciding to write was brave of her. The fact of it being close people that even he family trusted is scary and even seeing she couldn’t even go to school without some type of troubles was heavy for me. It was such a relieve when Paul showed up in her life. I believe the turning point for her came when she realized those people were part of her personal development.. Throughout the book she showed what she went through, what steps she took and how she overcame it. With that I believe she will help many women do that same and that is amazing. She didn’t give just one way but many because one way will not get the job done. I’m glad I got this book and will pass it on and suggest it to other women and girls as well.

Feeling worthless or isolated? Feel like it’s time to take yourself? Read this along, and perhaps, whatever you are going through, will look like nothing, to what this girl has been through her whole life. Victim 2 victor by Anu Verma was such an emotional and deep read which made me feel so sad at the beginning as I wanted things to work better for young Anu, but later it all turned to an energetic and inspiring tell-all, as she evolved to a smart and independent lady and loving mother to a son. The book unfolds into two main parts, wherein the first half, the author explains all that she has been through, being a victim of sexual abuse at her very young ages. The saddest part was that she had become a victim of it again and again, up to the point she lost her own identity, self-esteem, and independence. Throughout the chapters, the author shares all the twists and turns that she had, the feelings of depression and anxiety, and how she got help, therapy, and her journey in overcoming all these negative feelings and emotions. During the second half, the author elaborates on all the tips and techniques that she used while overcoming her negative setbacks, which I felt could be really useful for anyone who is out there, looking for help to overcome similar situations. The overall flow of the incidents and the content was well-aligned, and the author had used a simple yet inspiring writing style to let herself out. I can imagine how strong one should be, to come out like this, and to let the world know what they have been through and to make others inspired to be strong. It was such a great read and highly recommended.

Anu, I received this book from amazon and I couldn’t put it down….we were both born In 1980 a day apart- both cancerians, but so different, I always thought of you as an independent, strong minded women. Who achieved anything she put her mind too. From a person that didn’t know your story it’s hard to see how vulnerable you were growing up. Now I know why you always wanted to travel to escape your demons. It saddened me that in the book I had sometimes been out on some of your destructive nights out. I never knew why you were always so crazy and wild, until now. I’m sorry you didn’t get the love and support you needed at the time. But I’m happy you have been able to see after a long journey, how truly amazing you are and I know how hard you have worked to build a wonderful life for you and Noah. Big hugs for being so brave and telling the world your story. Love you lots always Elisha xx

From the moment I picked up this book, I couldn’t put it down. It is such a heart tugging book that I needed to know all about Anu’s journey in life. My own memories of my childhood are fond; full of love, family, laughter and happiness and to think that that’s not everyone’s childhood memories is devastating. It’s a place where we assume we are safe. Reading Anu’s story made me feel angry, sad but it also brought a smile to my face as she continued to heal and pressed so hard to get to where she is now. I can’t imagine how she felt writing this book, but one thing is for sure, I can imagine how hard it was. So well done Anu, I hope this book will help others and they too heal and become victors as you have!

More often than not, a lot of children are abused sexually, physically, and psychologically every day. The abusers are in most cases well known to them and unfortunately, their families chose to act as if nothing happened. This is what happened to the author of this book, she suffered sexual abuse from the age of 3 and has had to live with the trauma that affected most of the decisions and choices she made as an individual. This book is not an easy read since the author has gone into details of the kind of abuse she underwent and how it affected her. “Childhood sexual abuse affects children across every ethnic, educational, religious, socioeconomic, and regional line. There is no discrimination in childhood sexual abuse” quote from the book What makes this book different from the others is that the author has told her story and also included resources that can be used by those who have had similar experiences to heal. In the first part, Anu talks about her sexual abuse experiences both as a child and as an adult, her relationships, her traveling experiences as she sought to escape from the pain, her failed financial investments and her marriage among others. As I was reading, I couldn’t help but marvel at the amount of trauma she had to live with. In the second part, she discusses the various types of trauma and how they happen. At the same time, she also talks about the various healing therapies that are used to treat the different types of trauma. The third part is about her healing journey, methods, and therapies that helped her heal and become victorious. In the fourth part, she talks about decision making and why it’s important for the healing process. The authors’ honesty and desire to help other people who have had similar experiences are what made me love the book. I cheered as the author become victorious in her journey. Anyone who is dealing with any form of trauma will benefit a great deal from this book. The author chose to explore this path in her book, hoping that it will also help others find themselves how she did, through travel, self-help, and a determination to cast off their damaging past.

A journey from darkness into light Victim 2 Victor by Anu Verma is a powerfully written and emotionally charged book. It isn’t an easy read by any means. The first part of the book is a heartbreaking account of the childhood sexual abuse that Anu was subjected to, which continued over the years. It is also a frightening look inside Indian culture, and the way that girls and women are perceived. As she gets older Anu throws herself from one unhealthy relationship to the next as she tries to make herself feel better, to try to find the person who will help her to heal. Anu discovers a love of travel, and travels extensively, meeting lots of different people, some who will help, some who will harm further. She begins to explore, through the visiting of such wonderful countries, different forms of healing. She becomes a Reiki Master, employs yoga and identifies strongly with Buddhism. Anu then demonstrates how some or all of these healing practices can shape and change how you feel about yourself. I think this book would be of help to anyone who still suffers from lingering trauma and is at a loss how to begin to address it. A powerful, emotional read.

Dremel- Broke my heart and then healed it again.

Victim 2 Victor is a story that anyone anywhere in the world who has experienced assault can relate to. Some of the trials that the author goes through are cultural in nature, but most are so similar to the experiences that everyone feels after assault. The isolation, the confusion, and the way the shadow of the events seem to chase after you anywhere you go in the world and cast a fog around any good thing that you try to do in life. I have experienced so many similar things to what the author went through in this book and found my own way to become a victor instead of a victim in the end. The author’s story breaks my heart for the little girl in the beginning who is going through these things but then, the author heals that broken heart throughout the story with the retelling of her life and what she did to heal herself when the rest of the world seemed too constantly be against her. The story has a special place in my heart now and I feel as though I know the author personally after reading it. She does not do what many do when they talk about assault. She does not sugar coat it, nor does she try to gloss over the feelings of confusion or anger that one feels and how one attempts to make it all make sense in their own heads. The author specifically talked about how she responded to trauma’s while she was in school and for me, that was eye opening, as I had gone through the same thing in a different place and in some different ways. What a beautiful ending that seems more like a glorious beginning. Anu Verma, thank you so much for writing this. The world needs to hear your story.

Victim 2 Victor is an amazing story of abuse, the aftermath, and recovery. Those who have been victimized or know someone who has will find this book useful. The only drawback for me was that it was incredibly triggering, resulting in some bad dreams. However, the information is useful, and it was worth it to make it through the book, although I had to stop reading for a few days.
The book outlines the author’s journey and many options for healing and ongoing emotional and physical health. I have tried some that the author mentions, but not all. It is worth reading this to discover all the possible ways to heal from abuse and trauma. The Reiki section is good, I have always wanted to learn more about this practice. The book also looks at the emotional freedom technique of tapping. I like the movie technique and tearless trauma, which kind of reminded me of EMDR. The author makes a connection with healing and weight loss. As am emotional eater, I totally understand this!
The decision-making section was my favorite, as this is something I have really struggled with. I love the idea of examining limiting beliefs and changing them. I feel life is a journey of finding ourselves and making conscious decision to heal is so valuable. For most survivors, the process of healing is not a one-time event. It is ongoing and in the process, we discover so much about ourselves and how trauma affects the body and mind. Great book, I will be reading the ‘action’ sections again.

“Victim 2 Victor” by Anu Verma is a moving, raw memoir that is a must-read for people healing from trauma and abuse. The author is refreshingly honest about the sexual abuse she endured. This trauma impacted her as an adult, and she repeatedly became involved in abusive relationships. She often felt isolated and lacked support from her family.

Even though this author experienced devastating events she did not remain a victim. Though she was victimized in horrific ways, her strength allowed her to courageously share her story.
This book has four sections. In the first segment, the author discusses her life – the good, the bad, and the ugly – including her travels and her return to the UK, where she grew up. She also discusses her experiences with therapy and the tools she gained as a client.

Next, the author addresses what abuse is. Her chapter on trauma was excellent – it was a comprehensive overview of the types of trauma and moves into healing trauma. The author includes all the types of treatment – again, an excellent and comprehensive summary.

This author was incredibly insightful and aware, and I loved the section where she discusses how traveling assisted in her healing. She learned from her abusive and traumatic experiences and showed that she could apply the life skills she learned to her relationships.

I also appreciated that the author included energy healing – including yoga – and the yoga poses that are healing. I practice yoga, and I so appreciated the author included this section!

If you are on a healing journey and struggling, PLEASE pick up this book. Though some of the sections are painful to read and might be triggering, there are so many wonderful suggestions based on this author’s own life experiences.

This book is so inspiring! I loved the author’s honesty and the fact she offers practical action steps.
Ms. Verma is so candid and honestly discusses her feelings and experiences in such a way that others can relate to her. She is likable and her writing is exceptional. I found myself laughing and crying while reading this book. I highly recommend this book – you will not be disappointed.

Kelly B - Moving!

Books always seem to appear at the right time in my life. This book's simple message left me awestruck, genuinely inspired and profoundly moved. This book was astounding.Easily one of the best books I have ever read across all genres. The author puts it all out there for the betterment of anyone willing to read. It is a peek into an amazing woman's life- and not so ordinary life lessons along the way. With a play of different influences and choices she had to make, it allows us to also examine our own choices and the possible whys behind them. It's for anyone who seeks the clarity and courage to have a deeper understanding on their personal truth. In our quest for purpose and pursuit of happiness, this introspect truly seems to be of great value to advance our authentic self, every day, through all the traumas we have to face. Five very well deserved stars!

Cheryl - Emotional and inspirational

This is an absolutely heartbreaking yet inspirational story. It was gut wrenching from the first page when the author talked about first being molested at such an incredibly young age. It’s absolutely devastating to consider. While I’m fortunate enough to not relate to this kind of trauma, I do know several people very close to me who can’t say the same thing. It’s absolutely gut wrenching to read, but also very important.

I’ll try not to give too much away here. This book took me through a wide range of emotions. I was sad when she discussed her abuse towards the beginning and continuing throughout the book. I was fearful when she went through her travels alone and continued to date men that were unhealthy, and I was so happy for her at the end of her story when she talked about where she was now. Her story is proof that those who have had the cards stacked against them from an early age can come out of the other side successful and content.

The educational section at the end was very informative and I learned quite a bit from it. I thought I knew a good amount around trauma and abuse, but these categories include a lot more than I knew. I think this part will be good for those that may struggle to put a word or phrase to what they’re feeling or went through. Overall, this was a tough read at times but absolutely worth it.
